HyreRoof exists for one reason: homeowners should not need to become roofing experts before making one of the more expensive decisions a house asks of them. A roof is quoted in a vocabulary most people meet once a decade (squares, tear-off, ice barrier, step flashing, net free area) and the person explaining that vocabulary is usually the person selling the roof.
We publish practical roofing information covering repairs, replacement, materials, cost drivers, storm damage, insurance and how to evaluate a roofing professional. When a homeowner is ready to speak to someone, we can also help connect them with roofing professionals serving their area.
HyreRoof is not a roofing contractor. We do not inspect, repair, replace, tarp or maintain roofs. We do not supervise roofing work, warrant it, finance it or guarantee the work of any roofing professional. Nobody from HyreRoof will ever get on your roof.
Why we built HyreRoof
Roofing has two features that make it unusually hard on the buyer. The first is that almost everything that determines whether a roof lasts is invisible once the covering goes on: the fastening pattern, the flashing, the underlayment, the condition of the deck underneath. The second is that a large part of the industry sells during a crisis: after a storm, after a leak, on a doorstep, at speed.
Those two facts together mean the homeowner is asked to make a five-figure decision, quickly, about work they will never be able to see, on the word of someone they met that week. The honest fix is not a better sales process. It is a better-informed homeowner.
What we publish
Three things, and we are deliberate about the difference between them.
- Guides. How roofing decisions actually work: repair against replacement, what drives a price, which material suits which climate and structure, what a storm claim involves, and what to check before signing a contract.
- Calculators. Eleven of them, free, with no email wall and the formula printed on the page. A tool that hides its arithmetic is a lead-capture form wearing a calculator’s clothes.
- Original research. Eleven studies built from primary sources: state licensing statutes, BLS employment data, Census housing counts, NOAA storm records. We publish these because the questions they answer were being asserted constantly and measured almost never.
How we research
Technical and code claims are sourced to model codes, trade standards bodies and building-science research, and the references are printed on the page rather than gestured at. Anything time-sensitive carries the date it was checked, because codes and insurance practice change and undated advice quietly becomes wrong.

How we handle contractor connections
When a homeowner tells us about a project, we may introduce them to roofing professionals serving that area and that type of work. We expect to be paid for making those introductions. That is the business model and we would rather state it plainly than bury it.
Two consequences we hold ourselves to. Commercial relationships do not decide what this site says about a material, a warranty, a claim or a contractor. That separation is written into our editorial policy. And an introduction is not a recommendation: you should still verify licensing, confirm insurance and read the contract. What we don’t do
- We do not perform, supervise, warrant or finance roofing work.
- We rate no roofers and publish no reviews or rankings, because we cannot yet source either to anything verifiable. A roofing site with no contractor list looks incomplete. One with an invented list is worse.
- We do not publish a national average price per square as if it were your price. Regional labour, disposal fees and material availability move it far enough that a single national figure misleads more than it helps.
- We do not give insurance, legal or engineering advice.
- We do not sell your details.
How we think about transparency
The rule we work to is that unverified is written as unverified. Where our contractor framework is incomplete, the site says which parts are done and which are not. Where a figure cannot be sourced, the section is shorter rather than padded. Where the business model is still being decided (what partner pricing looks like, whether introductions are exclusive), the page says so instead of inventing a number.
That produces a site with visible gaps. We think a visible gap is a feature: it is the only honest signal that the rest of the page is not also invented.
Our editorial standards
No dollar figure without a named source and a date. No company, review, statistic, award or certification invented. No paid placement inside editorial content.
