The verdict
LeafFilter vs Gutter Helmet is a choice between two designs, not two grades. LeafFilter describes a stainless steel micromesh screen over the gutter, in a uPVC frame.
Gutter Helmet describes a solid cover that uses surface tension to carry water around its edge into the gutter, with no filter. Both advertise lifetime, transferable warranties that depend on professional installation.
We have not tested either, so we do not pick one; the questions below are what decides it for your roof.
Which should you choose?
The mesh design may suit you if…
Your debris is mostly leaves and needles, and you want water to pass straight through a screen.
You prefer a filter you can see and brush off from a ladder.
Read the warranty for what it says about cleaning the mesh surface.
The surface-tension cover may suit you if…
You want a solid cover with no filter to collect fine debris.
Your roof edge suits a cover that water must follow around a curve.
Ask how it handles very heavy downpours off a steep, long roof.
LeafFilter vs Gutter Helmet side by side
Every cell is what the maker itself publishes, read on October 22, 2026. Blank means the maker does not say.

|---|---|---|
| How it keeps debris out | Stainless steel micromesh screen | Surface tension: water clings and runs in; debris falls off |

| Frame or support | uPVC frame | Reinforced aluminum alloy support system |
| How it attaches | Internal hidden hangers fastened into the fascia | Not stated; dealer installation only |

Cost over the life of the roof
Both are sold through in-home quotes, so prices vary by house and by visit. Compare the scope, not the headline.
What is included. Ask whether the quote includes cleaning, resealing, rehanging or replacing the gutters underneath.
The warranty. Lifetime warranties differ in what they cover: the product, clogs, labor, or the gutter itself. Get the written terms from each, and note who must clean what.
The alternative. Price the same run with an independent installer, or with regular gutter cleaning, before deciding.
In-home sales. If you sign at home, a federal rule gives you a three-day cooling-off period for many in-home sales (16 CFR 429).
No price ranges yet, on purpose. HyreRoof publishes a price range for a job only once it holds at least 12 dated, sourced quotes for it, and we do not hold them for this work yet.
Until then, use the factors above to read a quote, and price your own numbers in the roof cost calculator or set quotes side by side in the estimate comparison tool. The cost guide explains every line.
Which fits your climate?
Your trees and your rain matter more than the brand.
Small debris is where screen size and cover gaps matter. Ask each rep how the design handles your trees, and what the warranty says if it clogs.
Ask how each design handles water off a steep or long roof plane, where flow is fastest.
Ask how the cover or screen behaves under ice at the eaves, and whether it affects snow guards or heat cables.
Ask whether either system touches the shingles or drip edge, and whether that affects the roof warranty.
Verdict by home type
Questions to settle, not a ranking.
| Your house | Where it points |
|---|---|
| Lots of pine needles or fine debris | Ask each how fine debris is handled and warranted |
| Steep roof, heavy rain | Ask how much water each design takes before overshoot |
| Old or sagging gutters | Fix or replace the gutters first |
| Selling within a few years | Check the transfer terms in writing |
| Few trees nearby | Cleaning may be enough; see gutter guard installation |

Primary-source research, data analysis and fact checking
We are a research desk, not a sales floor. We read the statute, the licensing board’s own pages, the code section or the federal dataset ourselves, and every figure we publish carries the document it came from and the date we retrieved it.
Where a number cannot be traced to a primary source, we publish the shorter page and say what we could not verify.
On our first study that rule removed a Minnesota exam statistic and left two states blank. Those gaps are on the page, not in a file somewhere.

How this desk works
- Primary sources only. Statutes from the legislature’s own publishing system, licensing rules from the board that issues the license, datasets from the agency that collected them. Never a directory, an aggregator or another guide.
- Three states, not two. A requirement is recorded as verified present, verified absent, or not verified. Folding the third into the second would turn an unchecked cell into a factual claim.
- Retrieval dates on everything. Regulation changes. A citation without the date it was read is not a citation.
- Failures are published. When a source blocks automated retrieval we record the failure and leave the row empty, rather than filling it from a secondary summary.
- Authorship is organizational. Research is attributed to this desk, never to an invented expert. Outside commentary, where used, is attributed to named and verifiable people.
Authorship on this site is organizational: the analysis belongs to the desk rather than to a named individual, and we do not publish credentials we do not hold. Our editorial policy sets out how we source, date and correct what we publish.
